This report from Suaram tracks the violation of civil and political rights by the government and the authorities in Malaysia. It also noted that Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi has yet to keep up with his promises where civil and political rights is concerned. Suaram started off its report with discrimination and institutionalised racism before progressing to other issues.

Through this report, Human Rights Watch criticizes Malaysia's Emergency Ordinance (public Order and Crime Prevention) because of the vague nature of detention in a sense that detainees are generally unaware how long their detention would take effect and they are not given an opportunity to defend their case in open court.

A joint publication between HRW and Natural Resources Defence Council on how the human rights abuses perspective in the environment. Eight countries including Malaysia has been put in the spotlight. In the case of Malaysia, this publication raises the issue of how the Mahathir administration uses the logging industry in Sabah and Sarawak as a leverage in the uncomfortable state - federal relations between Kuala Lumpur and the Borneo states.
As a result the livelihood of the indigenous people are affected as they rely heavily on the forest.
